Karen Gillan Wants Nessy on Doctor Who

Karen Gillan has revealed that she would like an episode of Doctor Who set in Scotland.

The actress, who plays companion Amy Pond, told the Daily Record that she has already suggested the idea to showrunner Steven Moffat.

“The Scots are taking over,” she said. “I said to Steven that we should do something with the Loch Ness Monster in Inverness.”

She added: “I would love to see someone like Billy Connolly in the show. I just think we should have someone who’s a big character and who is really funny. Someone like that, who is Scottish.”

Gillan also revealed that she is pleased that she can play Amy with a Scottish accent.

“After I was cast, they still weren’t sure if Amy was going to be English or Scottish and we just decided that she could be Scottish,” she explained. “But it was really nice to be able to do it in my own accent because it’s obviously something I feel more comfortable doing. I really think it suits her.”

Nessie’s existence has already been “dealt with” in a Tom Baker serial (can’t remember which one…). But Moffat is so brilliant, he can easily write her back in the show…
