Doctor Who Series 6 News

Posted in Uncategorized with tags , , , , , on August 30, 2010 by Geek Tv

At the Edinburgh International Television Festival, Steven Moffat revealed that the upcoming 13-episode season of Doctor Who would be split down the middle into 7-episode spring arc and a 6-episode autumn storyline.

Moffat divulged that the break next season wouldn’t be the dreaded mid-season hiatus, but rather a split between two distinct stories:

Looking at the next series I thought what this show needs is a big event in the middle [...] I kept referring to a mid-season finale. So we are going to make it two series – seven episodes at Easter building to an earth-shattering climax, a cliffhanger we could never normally do because it would be too long before it came back. An enormous game-changing cliffhanger that will change everything. The wrong expression would be to say we are splitting it in two. We are making it two separate series [...] With an Easter series, an autumn series and a Christmas special, you are never going to be more than few months from the new series of Doctor Who [...] Tart that I am, we will now have two first nights and two finales, twice as many event episodes as we had before.
Moffat also discussed the show’s budget (“I don’t understand numbers. It’s a decent budget. I beg for money and more rubber green people and eventually they say OK, you can have a third rubber green person.”) and the prospects of seeing a Doctress:

I think about it sometimes and maybe it will happen someday. It wouldn’t have been right this time [...] A woman can play the part. You have to remember the single most important thing about regeneration is you must convince the audience and the children that’s it’s not a new man, it’s not a different man, it’s the same one. It’s a bigger ask if you turn him into a woman.
Finally, Moffat mentioned that he would be with Who for the long haul — he won’t leave the program “for a while yet.”

Artemis Fowl & the Atlantis Complex review

Posted in Geek literature with tags , , , , , , , , , on August 27, 2010 by Geek Tv

<img:stuff/aj/61513/1282924840.png>

After the time paradox/travel of the last book, the 7th book in the AF series throws a bunch of goodies at us including but not limited to Psychological disorders, giant squids and mortally dangerous blobs of gel! Woo!

Artemis is apparently up to something for the greater good. Yes. The evil genious decided to help the planet and solve the global warming problem in a way that not even fairies had thought of. The bad news is Artemis is not his old self, being engulfed in OCD/bipolar disorder. This produces a serious amount of giggleworthy text since his alter ego is a hopeless romantic that calls Holly Princess and Foaly a goodly beast.

It’s a bit weaker than the two previous books but was fully enjoyable whatsoever. Artemis Fowl NEVER gets boring! Those of you who just won’t read it because you think it’s for kids will miss out in one of the best book series in the scifi/fantasy genre

Neil Gaiman posts ‘Who’ scene online

Posted in Doctor who with tags , , on August 23, 2010 by Geek Tv

Neil Gaiman has posted a deleted scene from his Doctor Who script online. The brief preview, cut from the final draft of his forthcoming instalment, features the Doctor and Amy investigating a mysterious bowl of food.

“The Doctor has just been given a bowl of something to eat,” wrote Gaiman on his blog. “Something… possibly… alien.”

The writer also revealed that the tenth draft of the script was rewritten by showrunner Steven Moffat. “Steven Moffat came to my rescue when I felt like I couldn’t even pick it up again, and for that, he is a hero. [...] It hasn’t really changed that much. It just gets tighter and, I hope, more like itself.”

He explained that the episode is now nearing the production stage, with a table read through “about ten days away”.

The new series of Doctor Who is expected to air on BBC One in early 2011

Episode synopsis for The Return and episode stills

Posted in The Vampire Diaries with tags , , , , , , , on August 22, 2010 by Geek Tv

We’ve got a full episode synopsis for The Return courtesy of Vampire Diaries Source and an episode still featuring Katherine from Nina Dobrev Network. Gotta say, with Katherine looking like this you’re not going to confuse Elena and Katherine, even if Nina is playing them both!

KATHERINE HAS RETURNED WITH A VENGEANCE — Picking up on the same night as last season’s finale, Elena arrives home to a nightmare as she discovers Uncle John’s and Jeremy’s fate. At the hospital, Sheriff Forbes is comforted by Matt, Bonnie and Damon while she waits to hear if Caroline will survive the car accident. After a confusing conversation with Elena about the night’s events, Damon is the first to realize that Katherine has returned. Katherine’s arrival sends Stefan and Damon on a path to find out what she wants, why she’s back, and how much of a threat she is to the people they love. Meanwhile, still reeling from his father’s death, Tyler is surprised when his charming and mysterious uncle, Mason Lockwood, arrives to console the family.

Steven R. McQueen (TVD’s Jeremy) interview

Posted in The Vampire Diaries with tags , , , on August 22, 2010 by Geek Tv

Here is a great interview with Steven R. McQueen (Jeremy) from the TV Fanatic, and has some spoilers in, so tread with caution.

Obviously, Jeremy wakes up, changed or not changed. Can you tell me how life goes when he does wake up?
Jeremy is a little more calculated. He always had his heart on his sleeve, and he doesn’t [use] emotion anymore. He thinks logically of how he can control the situation.

Will Jeremy and Elena be able to repair their relationship?
They actually get into a fist fight in the first episode [laughs].

Will Jeremy and Katherine have a run-in?
Yes.

I think the whole Vampire Diaries fan base was in uproar when Anna died.
[Malese Jow is] a very talented actress, and she’s a great girl. It was a bummer to lose her. The writers want people go through an emotional roller coaster. We had an intense connection, and things were finally feeling alright for Jeremy.

Are there any new girls in Jeremy’s future?
I don’t think, emotionally, he’s going to let himself open up to any situation like that. Physically, I’m sure he’ll indulge a little bit.
